For the best wide-angle composition, position your subjects on the Burgtheater steps directly opposite — you’ll frame the entire market in a single shot that no other location in Europe can rival.

This is the location most visitors imagine when they think ‘Vienna Christmas.’ It is also, by afternoon on any weekend, one of the most crowded places in Europe. Arriving at 8:00 AM sharp on weekdays is non-negotiable for clean images. By 9:30 AM the vendors are setting up; by 10:30 AM the crowds are insurmountable.

What happens if it rains or snows on our shoot day?

Rain: I carry professional light diffusers and work around precipitation. Light rain can produce beautiful reflections on cobblestones and keeps crowds away — some of my favourite images have been shot in drizzle. For heavy rain, we reschedule at no cost within the same season.

Snow: We celebrate. I maintain a weather watch and will contact you immediately if significant snowfall is forecast. A light dusting of snow on Rathausplatz is, genuinely, the most beautiful thing I have ever photographed.
